Sauraha and Tharu Villages, Nepal
Written By Tiffany Paine
The town of Sauraha, Nepal is a dusty mix of touristy safari jeep tours, elephant rides and local Tharu villagers. Beautiful green fields and rice farms. Roaming cows. Chickens and ducks. Goats are slaughtered in front yards in the morning. Elephants with riders leisurely roaming the roads. Children playing marbles. Large bright colored tarps in front of houses, loaded with drying rice. Dogs laze in the shade.
We rented bikes and rode out far into the countryside. Some children waved at us shyly, some shouted loudly with happy hellos.
The air is hot and thick. The pace is slow here. Nothing at all like Kathmandu.
